Wow, that texture really popped in that photo. Okay, I now have a teency-weency bit more respect for the iPhone 4's camera. Nice shot!
I went out shooting this morning about campus. Looking for something interesting. Note to self: don't go shooting when it's snowing, unless you're prepared to deal with out-of-focus flakes that riddle your photo.
Forgot to add I sharpened it a tiny bit in PS, but it's 99% original.
The camera was one of the main reasons I wanted the iPhone4 because I can't carry my D40 in my pocket and I need a camera at all times because I'm a dad. I was pretty disappointed with the results it gave me and I kinda forgot about it for a while, but I've decided to challenge myself and see what I can get out of it. I've heard it said many times that you don't need a good camera to take good pictures, all you need is creativity. So we'll see. With the addition of a few apps it may not be so hard!
There's got to be no end to interesting subjects at ND. Falling snow is tough. I've been out in it a few times (sometimes with the camera in a large ziploc with the lens peeking out of the zipper) but I've never been able to use the snow to good effect.
That's very understandable when you have a kid running around. Or two. The iPhone 4 camera is a vast improvement over the previous models. The camera on my 3GS is horrible. It's great for quick and dirty reference, but if you actually want to 'do' something with the photo, forget it.
In addition to creativity...I'm gonna say lighting plays a big factor too. You can take nearly any photograph, even one with average composition, change the lighting and all of a sudden the photo really pops. I thank my lucky stars every day for whoever invented Photoshop. Because if I had to go with what I shot raw without editing, I'd really suck. Which is why I'm constantly struggling with what mode to shoot in. I was thinking of making a post about that actually.
I phone 4, I have been debating getting one, mostly cause I am getting Ryan one for his B-day which means we have to sign another two year agreement and I don't think my 3gs has another two years left in it...and I don't want to keep alternating buying new iphones every other year and signing new two year agreements...is it worth it?
I love that shot, the texture does look really cool, I didn't even realize you had put that you took it with your iphone until Jon commented about it. Very nice job...
Jon check out PW page about what mode, or wait was it, crap I'll get back to you but I just saw another blog about what mode to shoot!
iPhone - I'd say it's worth it, but it's my first one. I guess it depends on what you need or want your phone to do.
The camera on it has turned out to be worthless for taking pictures of my daughter in anything but sunlight (which there isn't much of right now). However, taking and editing video on it is quite fun. I love importing my Nikon photos and looking at them on the retina display. Amazing.
